It's a New Day . . . Wise up Musicians and take back the Music!!! Let it be known that I am a firm believer of the complete independence and liberation of the creative musician from the exploitative and one sided practices of the so-called "Music Business." Time to level the playing field! I urge each and every one of you to take back the music! Get out there and find other ways to market your music! Technology now empowers music artists to create market quality music at home, on the computer, in the garage . . . wherever one chooses, really. More importantly, this gives total and complete creative control, along with control of copyright, publishing, ownership, marketing and licensing of one's music. Without our music, there is no "Music Business!" Play it smart . . . they need us to survive, in the long run! What I'm trying to say is . . . wise up musicians!!!! The "record business" is dying on its feet! They're top heavy with too much cost overhead, and staffed with over paid, under qualified people that know everything about image, but nothing about music! Who are they gonna call to fix this? For too long, we've been at the mercy of these labels, whose sole aim has always been to exploit artists, in some cases literally to death! Fortunately for us, the public is clearly saying NO, to being force fed more junk music. This is reflected in their slumping sales. So let's respect ourselves as artists and human beings, demand respect and fair treatment from the labels (or else!), and let's all respect the intelligence of the record buying public. This next statement, is intended for serious full time artists that do this for a living. (If you're a weekend warrior with a day job that pays your bills, this definitely ain't for you!) Don't give away your music on MP3's or any of that shit!! Man that's totally playing into the big label's hands! Fifty million people might be hearing your shit, but you ain't earning shit! The public needs to understand, that music is our livelihood! It's a full time job, 24/7! We deserve to get paid like any other craftsperson. See how many houses get built if you don't pay the bricklayer! Buying music direct from the artist allows a much fairer price to be passed along to the consumer. It's a new day! Take care, one and all! |
